Being A Simply Music Student

A new way to learn piano

WHAT STUDENTS HAVE TO SAY

Our piano program

All human beings, without exception, are deeply and naturally musical

In the same way that we all learn to speak years before we learn to read and spell, Simply Music temporarily delays music reading and immerses students in the experience of immediately playing great-sounding music.
Our unique method replaces traditional music reading with engaging play-based concepts directly on the keyboard. This leads students to quickly build a repertoire of 35-50 pieces within the first year, all while fostering a natural love for music. Music reading is introduced later, ensuring strong skills while prioritizing a fun and effective approach.

The Curriculum

Music in your life, for the rest of your life

The Simply Music Method is designed to maximize the likelihood of students acquiring and retaining music as a lifelong companion. Our program is designed so that students:
  • Experience playing as a natural self-expression
  • Play a broad repertoire that includes classical, contemporary, blues, jazz, accompaniments and more…
  • Learn to “self-generate”, i.e., progress independently as musicians, and have a strong foundation in music reading and theory
  • Have a highly positive, self-affirming experience
The Simply Music Curriculum unfolds over anywhere from 6 to 10 years, depending on students’ individual rates of progress.

Getting started

What you need to start learning piano with Simply Music

As a Simply Music student, your teacher will ask you to create a Simply Music Student Account. Doing this is an essential and required component of your lessons and overall experience.
Your Student Account is where you’ll gain access to your Student Home Materials (SHMs). These consist of video, audio, and PDF materials that are used in class and/or at home, and are a critical support tool designed to assist your learning of the songs, tools, and strategies that your teacher will present during your regular piano lessons.

What does it cost?

Regardless of whether you are in private or shared lessons, Simply Music Teachers are entirely independent and determine their own fee structure. Contact your local Simply Music Teacher to inquire about their fees.
Your learning journey includes Student Home Materials (SHMs), a required part of your learning experience accessed through your Simply Music account. A $4 monthly Membership fee is required to maintain an account and access your SHMs. In addition, each program has a one-time unlock fee (details in our student brochure). For a complete breakdown of SHM program costs and international pricing*, view our student brochure.
* International pricing note: for those living outside of the USA, we are happy to create a pricing structure that aligns with your country’s currency-value and cost-of-living.

“After a year of traditional lessons our son was only playing one hand and one note at a time. He was discouraged and ready to quit. We then switched him to Simply Music and he now plays blues, jazz and classical pieces. He LOVES piano now.”

“I started Simply Music to stimulate my aging brain. I'm 80 years old. The effect this program has had on my cognitive function has been extraordinary. I am 80 years old, and feel like I’m living proof that learning the piano this way slows the decline of an aging brain. The amount of work and talent that has gone into creating this program is extraordinary."

"Speaking as a professional composer, I'm impressed with the way the Simply Music program has been constructed. My nine-year-old son is not only playing the songs in the Simply Music repertory, he's improvising his own tunes, reading chord changes, and teaching himself new songs. That's really worth its weight in gold."
