With the runaway success of Glee, Pitch Perfect and High School Musical, a cappella is riding high. What exactly is the appeal of vocal music? As beatboxer and star of NBC’s The Sing-Off Richard Steighner explains, “being dorky and having fun is kind of in”. And long may it stay that way! Alongside touring with his super-group The Exchange Richard conducts coaching sessions for schools, choirs and others. He took time from his schedule to talk with Gretta Dunn about his work and even gave her a two-minute beatboxing crash course.
