About

Julie French is a proud Helena, Montana native, born and raised in the scenic surroundings of the Treasure State. Her passion for music took root at a young age when she began piano lessons at just 7 years old. Under the guidance of her esteemed piano teacher, Cinda Tompkins, in her teenage years, Julie’s love for music blossomed, and her innate musical talent flourished. After completing her education at Montana City School and Helena High School, Julie embarked on her academic journey at Brigham Young University. Although she initially pursued studies in French Literature, her dedication to music remained unwavering. Throughout her time at BYU, Julie continued to nurture her piano skills under the mentorship of Harvey Rich, a notable piano teacher at the university. Julie’s life as a Navy spouse led her to explore her passion for teaching piano.

Over the past 15 years, she has enthusiastically shared her knowledge and love for music with her students. Now that her husband has retired from the Navy, Julie and her family have returned to the Helena area, where she has established her private studio, Julie’s Family Piano Studio. One of Julie’s core beliefs is that engaging the entire family in music fosters a higher likelihood of sustained piano studies. She recognizes the importance of creating a supportive and encouraging environment that encourages students to explore their musical abilities to the fullest.

To further enhance her teaching skills, Julie obtained a license as a Simply Music Teacher, enabling her to employ innovative and effective teaching methods that prioritize the joy and creativity of learning music. Her commitment to providing a nurturing and enriching experience for her students is evident in her approach as an educator. Julie French’s journey as a pianist, educator, and advocate for family involvement in music has made her a valued member of the Helena community. Her dedication to cultivating a love for music and empowering her students to develop their talents has left a lasting impact on those she has had the pleasure of teaching.
