About

As one of the original group of Perth teachers who trained with Neil Moore in person, back in 2001, Ginny brings a breadth of musical and life experience to her piano teaching. She also plays guitar, ukulele and piano accordion, has directed choirs, and has organised and MC’d many community music events since the early 1990s. Ginny has also performed her original material, both serious and comic, in a variety of duos and bands at various local and interstate festivals and community arts events. While encouraging a strong sense of performance confidence and musicality, Ginny applies the foundational Simply Music philosophy that everyone is musical, and that music primarily offers personal satisfaction and an outlet for our innate creativity. To nurture this, Ginny applies the success-focused methodologies and positive psychology of Simply Music to all learning and performance environments. Ginny has worked successfully with people of all ages, from very young students to the elderly in our community. Specifically, Ginny founded Ocean Choir in 1998, and had her song arrangement Ocean chosen for the International Year of the Ocean Fremantle Festival celebrations that year. More recently, she directed the Tuart Place Singers for a number of years – now adult and senior Care Leavers, including the Child Migrants, Stolen Generations and Forgotten Australians, who are finding solace and connection through story and song. Hear the Tuart Place Singers Child Migrant’s “anthem” here. See also ABC’s Lateline segment about the Child Migrants (Tuart Place Singers are around 7 minutes in) and Tuart Place Singers participation in Bernard Carney’s Pass the Song Along challenge, involving a variety of local community singing groups. As an experienced writer of prose and poetry as well as original songs and a cappella arrangements, Ginny is equipped to bring out the best in budding composers and lyricists. She has performed poetry workshops, participating in the Fairbridge Festival World Series Comedy Poetry Debate. She has facilitated poetry, songwriting and ukulele workshops at community arts events, including Make Your Own Kind of Music at a Simply Music teacher conference in Perth. You can listen to Ginny’s poetry on Soundcloud. See also Nanga Music Festival 2019, Monday Night Supper Club, and her website, Flourish. After completing coursework with the Australian Writers Centre in 2021, Ginny has just completed her first novel. See Flourish

Ginny looks forward to re-expanding her Simply Music studio as of the second half of 2022, after taking time out for other creative projects. Individual and small group lessons are available in Hilton and other locations by arrangement. Beginners to Level 9 Foundation and Development Levels 10+
