I learned the Simply Music method because I always wanted to play Jazz Piano. As a child, I was able to play by ear just about anything I heard, but was quickly discouraged as it prevented me from learning to read notes. I could not understand why I had to learn note reading and little tunes when I could already play early classical or blues by simply sounding out the melodies on the piano.
I never want a child to feel like they are doing something wrong by playing by ear or playing by note reading.
This method has afforded me much joy as I can finally play in different styles, with or without written music in front of me. I can teach this wonderful method to new pianists in a manner that best suits his/her individual strengths.
As well, for piano students who do not like traditional lessons, this options often opens the door to the love of playing.
